How to Make Wood Wick Candles at Home
DIY Wood Wick Candles
Here's a step-by-step guide on how to make wood wick candles at home:
Materials you will need:
Wax (soy, beeswax, or paraffin)
Wood wicks
Candle dye or color block (optional)
Fragrance oil (optional)
Candle thermometer
Double boiler or a heat-safe container and a saucepan
Pouring pitcher or a heat-safe container with a spout
Wick centering tool (optional)
Candle jars or containers
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Step 1: Prepare your work area
Clear a flat surface and cover it with newspaper or wax paper. Ensure that the area is clean and free from any flammable objects. Have all your materials and tools ready.
Step 2: Melt the wax
Melt the wax in a double boiler or a heat-safe container over a saucepan of simmering water. Keep the temperature between 160-180°F (70-80°C) and stir occasionally until it is fully melted.
Step 3: Prepare the wicks
While the wax is melting, prepare the wood wicks. Cut the wicks to the desired length, making sure they are slightly longer than the height of the candle jar or container. Attach the wicks to the center of the jars or containers using a hot glue gun.
Step 4: Add color and fragrance (optional)
Add candle dye or color blocks to the melted wax and stir until fully combined. If you want to add fragrance, add a few drops of fragrance oil and stir until fully combined.
Step 5: Pour the wax
Once the wax has reached the desired temperature, carefully pour it into the candle jars or containers. Hold the wood wick in place with a wick centering tool or a pencil until the wax sets.
Step 6: Let the wax cool and set
Allow the candles to cool and set for several hours, preferably overnight. Do not move or disturb the candles while they are setting.
Step 7: Trim the wick
After the wax has fully set, trim the wood wick to about ¼ inch (0.6 cm) using scissors or a wick trimmer.
Step 8: Enjoy your candles!
Light your wood wick candles and enjoy their warm and cozy glow.
Tips:
Be careful when handling hot wax and use protective gloves if necessary.
Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions when using candle dyes, color blocks, and fragrance oils.
To prevent air bubbles from forming in the wax, pour the wax slowly and gently.
If the wood wick moves or becomes crooked while pouring the wax, gently adjust it with a wick centering tool or a pencil.
That's it! Have fun making your own wood wick candles at home.
